Los Roques, a taste of Paradise
Los Roques archipelago is a federal dependency of Venezuela consisting of approximately 350 islands, cays, and islets in a total area of 40.61 square kilometers.
The archipelago is scarcely populated, having about 1,500 permanent inhabitants; however it receives approximately 70,000 visitors a year, many of them day-visitors who come from Caracas and the mainland.

The archipelago is located 128 kilometers (80 mi) directly north of the port of La Guaira.The islands' pristine coral reef attracts many wealthy visitors, especially from Europe, some of whom come in their own yachts and anchor in the inner, protected shallow waters.
Because of the wide variety of seabirds and rich aquatic life, the Venezuelan government declared Los Roques a National Park in 1972.​

Diving in Los Roques
The diving in Los Roques can become one of the most fascinating and memorable experiences for a diver. Los Roques is a paradise, rated one of the best diving spots worldwide characterized by its clear and transparent, and the rich variety of the marine species in the archipelago will impress any scuba diver. Los Roques' coral reefs are an exceptionally varied environments where fluctuations in temperature, small areas of rough and calm waters, and bright and shady areas where an abundance of nutrients are generated. As you dive through the crystal blue water on your undersea scuba diving adventure, you will also see a complex underwater ecosystem of sea grasses. This ecosystem is the home of hundred of species of fish, as well as mollusks, turtles, snails and the queen conch.Some species of fish, such as the surgeon fish, angel fish and the spotfin butterfly fish, have adapted specially to the coral reef.

As a National Marine park since 1972 the tranquility of this place has been preserved and should remain unspoilt - many tourists come here to see the beauty of the untouched reefs. So go as an 'eco-kiter' and leave only your footprints in the sand and your stoke on the water!There is awesome flat water here and other islands like Bird island to explore for kiting and are accessible for day trips.
Protected by the Great Barrier Reef, there are flat waters and waves to be found in and around the islands.
Wind direction doesn't matter as there are so many beaches facing different directions. Rescue cover can be hired in advance and the water remains shallow, dropping to three metres at its deepest point.
